Letter to the Foundation

projects that would not have happened without the help of the Foundation.

As most of you are aware, the Public Schools Foundation has been instrumental in providing an alternative funding source for our schools.  Because of their efforts, the District has been able to provide our students with opportunities they would not otherwise received.  Though most of the focus has been technology, they have funded many other worthwhile projects as well.  While there has been a long list of projects, those listed below will give you some idea of the scope of the Foundations work.  They include:

  • $15,000 or more to each elementary school for computer labs (Specific donor request)
  • New drums for the Jacksonville High School Band
  • $106,000 Depko Lab for Jacksonville High School
  • $3,000 for Jacksonville High School Band to attend international conference in Canada
  • $24,000 for a wireless lab at Turner Junior High School
  • $10,500 for playground equipment for an elementary school
  • $60,000 for two wireless labs at Jacksonville High School
  • Weather station for science department at Turner Junior High School
  • Mini-grant opportunities for teachers
  • $8,000 for Star Reading program for grades K-8
  • $5,000 to Turner Junior High School for Jacksonville Digital Project
  • $11,400 to Jacksonville High School chemistry department
  • $10,000 for the installation of lights for the Jacksonville High School tennis team
  • On-line library catalog stations for Jacksonville High School (Specific donor request)
  • Donation of door prizes for opening day ceremonies
  • $100,000 for Promethean boards for the elementary schools (Specific donor request)
  • $24,000 for the chemistry department at Jacksonville High School
  • $5,000 for lighting project at the Jacksonville High School athletic field
  • $1,000 for bleachers at the Jacksonville High School soccer field
  • Purchased 54 LCD projectors over a two year period to benefit all District 117 schools
  • $11,000 for wireless access points to provide all schools with wireless access
  • $4,000 for Turner Junior High School science department trip to Chicago
  • $50,000 for Promethean boards for the junior high and high school (Specific donor request)

Both staff and students have been positively affected by one or more of these projects -- projects that would not have happened without the help of the Foundation.  It is important that we do what we can to ensure the continued success of this organization.  As you can tell by looking at the project list, our students have benefited greatly by their efforts.
